How a Sharper Medicine consult works.
Three steps from accident to a clear plan. Here is what to expect at each one.
Attorney referral
Your attorney refers you to Sharper Medicine and shares the basic information we need to begin: who you are, the date of your accident, and any records you already have. There is no insurance card to find and no copay to pay.
Care is provided under a letter of protection — a written agreement between your attorney and Sharper Medicine. In plain terms: you are not billed out of pocket for your care. The cost of your treatment is addressed later, out of your settlement, under the terms your attorney arranges. You focus on getting seen and feeling better.
Once the referral arrives, we reach out to schedule your visit, usually for a time within the next day.
Telehealth consult
You meet Dr. Shanar by video from wherever you are in Texas — your home, your attorney's office, anywhere with a camera and a quiet moment. A typical visit runs 20 to 30 minutes.
Dr. Shanar will ask about the accident, where and how your pain presents, what makes it better or worse, your relevant history, and any medications you take. As an emergency-medicine-trained physician, she is screening for the things a generic urgent-care visit can miss — what needs imaging, what needs a specialist, and what can be managed acutely right now.
This is the difference between a queue and a physician: a structured assessment, not a quick refill.
Treatment plan
You leave the visit with a clear plan. If medication is appropriate, prescriptions are sent electronically to your pharmacy. Dr. Shanar explains what each is for and how to take it.
Follow-up is scheduled based on how you are recovering. If your pain worsens between visits, you will know how to reach the practice — and you will know the signs that mean you should not wait, and should go to an emergency department instead.
When your recovery calls for care beyond acute pain management — interventional pain procedures, imaging follow-up, physical therapy, or chiropractic — Dr. Shanar coordinates referrals to the right providers. Sharper Medicine is the medical-management arm; it works alongside the rest of your care team.
